Acne is one of the most prevalent Skin Conditions, and it affects people of all ages.   Usually starting around puberty, this skin condition can be very embarrassing, and can extend to effect other areas of your life.

Adult Acne is very common, and although most people experience Acne as an adolescent, it can have damaging effects on self confidence into adulthood.

Acne is a skin condition, and is visible on the exterior of the body, but in terms of Chinese Medicine, it is an internal problem.

Common symptoms of Acne include redness, itching, pain and pus, and are generally located on the face, neck, shoulders, back and Chest.

Lung Heat

Common with teenagers, this is an accumulation of heat in the lung, which creates fire toxins in the face.   The skin is red with red papules, pustules which are quick to come and go.

Yang Ming Heat

Similiar pattern to Lung Heat, but the symptoms are more pronounced, painful, and seem to be more widespread on the face, especially the cheeks.    There may be constipation or loose bowels, poor appetite, bad breath, and distention.

Blood Heat with Stasis

This pattern is found in people who are in adulthood, with redness, papules, nodules, especially around the chin and jaw line, with painful pustules.    This acne tends to be worse before the period arrives or around ovulation.

Fire Toxins, Stagnation of Phlegm and Blood Stasis

Deep pustules and nodules, cysts, scarring.  Lesions are slow to form and go away.
